Jeff and Mike H submerge themselves in the fishy world of Dagon, directed by the late Stuart Gordon and written by Dennis Paoli. Gordon was known for his interpretations of Lovecraft’s source material.  Dagon is loosely based on the novella, The Shadow over Innsmouth, one of HPL’s most well-known pieces.

Jeff and Mike H discuss Sinister from 2012.  The creative team of Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargil brought us The Black Phone last year and this is one of their earlier works as well as the beginning of their relationship with veteran actor Ethan Hawke.

Mike and Mike go back to the glorious 70’s for Burnt Offerings.  Maybe a bit overlooked, Burnt Offerings boasts a stellar cast featuring Karen Black, Oliver Reed, Bette Davis and Burgess Meredith. Additionally, this was directed and co-written by dan Curtis of Dark Shadows fame.

This past weekend was the inaugural Nightlands Festival, the official Cadabra Records / Chipoters Press festival of weird fiction and cosmic horror.  Mike Hill and Necro Quality Control Manager Rennie Resmini attended and issued this field report.  Included are some short interviews with founder Jonathan Denisson and Composer Chris Bozzone.

NECRO 175 SUMMER OFSAM

Jeff and Mike H. go back to the late 90’s to cover a movie about the late 70’s.  Spike Lee’s Summer of Sam dropped with a fair amount of controversy; it’s less a movie about a serial killer than a study on ignorance set against a background of blackouts, violence and murder in the City that Never Sleep.
 
There are 8 million stories in the naked city, and this was one of them.
